5 Smart Home Features For Tropical Climate Control

Smart home features for climate control have been gaining popularity in recent years. Automated systems for smart home climate control can be used to regulate your home’s indoor climate. This creates an indoor environment that is cool and comfortable for you in your tropical home.

What Are Smart Home Climate Control Features?

A smart home is a home that uses systems and devices to automate and simplify specific operations for you. They use the internet through a Wi-Fi connection to control devices in your home.

This can include lights, appliances, security systems and air-conditioning and can all be controlled from your smartphone and other similar devices.

You can also control items using voice-activated smart systems like Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

This technology can be used to regulate and control the indoor environment of your home.

1. Smart Thermostats

A smart thermostat can be used to control the temperature of your home. Like a regular thermostat, it monitors the indoor temperature. But unlike a regular thermostat, a smart thermostat can do so much more than turn on and off your A/C system.

Smart thermostats can learn your habits and automatically adjust your central air conditioning system to suit your needs. Some smart thermostats can also sense when you are on your way home and adjust the temperature in anticipation of your arrival.

These features allow your air conditioning system to only operate when it is needed. As a result, this saves energy and operating cost.

They can also be connected to other smart devices in your home like fans and blinds. Hence, smart thermostats can adjust these devices based on the temperature inside.

2. Smart Air Conditioners

A smart air conditioning unit is a good option where a central system is not necessary. Separate smart A/C units can be installed in rooms that may need air conditioning during the hottest months of the year. This also makes it easier to manage the temperature per room rather than throughout your home.

They can have programmed schedules and automated controls to help save energy. You can turn them on and off remotely. Hence, the day you run out of the house and forget to turn it off, you can do so from your smartphone.

These can also come with geolocation capabilities that detect when you are on your way home. As a result, they can turn on or adjust the temperature just in time for your arrival.

3. Smart Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans can be a great way to keep your tropical home cool. Operating air conditioning in your home can consume a lot of energy. A well ventilated home that uses passive strategies to reduce solar heat gain can use ceiling fans to keep the temperature at a comfortable range.

Incorporating smart ceiling fans will add some extra comfort, functionality and efficiency to cooling your rooms.

These can be programmed to a set schedule or be fitted with motion or occupancy sensors. They also carry relative humidity and temperature sensors. Hence, the fan will only turn on when it is needed.

Smart ceiling fans can also be connected to your smart thermostat to turn on and off depending on the temperature of your home.

They are kits that you can add to your existing or regular ceiling fan to give it smart functionality.

4. Smart Blinds And Shading Devices

Your interior blinds and curtains, as well as exterior shading devices like automated louvred systems, can be operated using smart technology.

There is no need to get up and close the blinds when the evening sun starts to blaze through the windows.

Blinds and shades can open and close depending on the conditions outside. They carry light sensors and can automatically close when the sun is impacting the window. This prevents direct sunlight from entering through your windows and increases the temperature of your room.

5. Automated Windows

Automated windows are another way that can assist with adding smart capabilities to your tropical home.

These are especially useful in hard-to-reach areas like high-level or clerestory windows.

Clerestory windows like louvres are great for allowing warm rising air to escape out of your home. This means cooler air can enter through windows at lower levels. This is called the stack effect.

However, their location can make them a challenge to open and close when necessary.

Automated windows with smart capabilities can allow you to open and close them from your smartphone.

They can also be fitted with rain sensors that close them automatically when the rain starts to fall.

Conclusion

Smart home climate control features have become more used in homes. They can add comfort and convenience to your home.

A smart thermostat can be used to control your air conditioners and fans to keep your home cool. They can also control blinds and shading devices to reduce the heat gain in your home.

Automated windows are also great for clerestories and other windows that may be hard to reach.

Some of these features may seem like luxuries and may be priced outside of your budget. However, if you want to bring your home’s climate control into the smart era, they are elements you can consider.
